The programs we have for our group are very informative, teaches us a lot about college, provides leadership skills, and how to overall be a better individual. I have a fun time with my peers when we go to conferences and on field trips. –GD, Senior
I was stunned and very impressed by the amount of successful, brilliant African Americans who made it and were quite successful! They had all accomplished so much. Just to be surrounded by these people inspired me to not only excel in school, but to go to college and become successful and find a way to contribute to the world! STRIVE opened the door for me to have such experiences. I am now stepping up my game! –RP, Junior
I learned that it is important to pick a college where you are most comfortable and have programs you are interested in. It is also important to visit the colleges you are interested in so you know the feel of how living on the campus would be like. SAT scores are important because colleges look at that but it will also be helpful to take the ACT. It is also helpful to talk to students, teachers or administrators (preferably students) form your choice of colleges so they can tell you what it is like to live on the campus and their experience; keep in contact with them by networking. STRIVE prepared me for life after high school. The overall experience was wonderful and it would be something I would not have wanted to miss. –SO, Junior
I miss the program so much! It was fun if I look back at it. You’re doing a great job, Salisa. STRIVE is a wonderful opportunity for young people and I’m glad I had a chance to be a member. I’m now in college and looking to major in engineering because of my whole STRIVE experience. –JK, 2010 Alumna
